There is a lot that Palworld is borrowing from Pokemon, and the similarities are pretty much around every corner. From the mechanics of capturing your Pals to the sheer amount of Pals that you can find in the game, it isn't shying away from the source of its inspiration. But not everything is the same exact thing, as is the case with finding a "Starter" Pal for you to begin your journey with.
