In case you missed it, Elden Ring is great, and it made me feel very small. It’s probably the most approachable soulslike from the acclaimed studio yet, but it’s not perfect, especially in the latter part. As I neared the end, more problems emerged, ruining the experience and leaving a bad taste in my mouth. It’s as if the game was rushed, and the team didn’t have enough time to properly figure out all the endgame areas.

As I worked my way around the campfire in Baldur’s Gate 3, chatting to my companions to see which ones had dialogue developments that invariably would lead me to bedding them, a niggling feeling coagulated into a fully fledged thought—something that had been bothering me since my early hours with the game: why isn’t there a single companion there from the stout ‘little’ races? Not a single Dwarf, Halfling, or Gnomish companion in sight, and frankly barely any notable characters from those races to speak of in the game full-stop.

Last month, cyberpunks and netrunners got a pleasant surprise when CDPR added a functional Metro system to Cyberpunk 2077. This is a big deal for several reasons, chief among them that this has been one of the most requested features in the game since its launch, and the fact that, well, Metros seem pretty fundamental to the vibe of a cyberpunk megalopolis; the weirdos, the commuters, the defecating homeless folk all bundled together as the city whizzes by in the background. It’s a real slice of urban life condensed into a small, scarce space.

Hoo, boy. I was really not looking forward to the Sins of the Flesh update for Cult of the Lamb, and that's a hard thing to say, because it's been one of my favorite games to come out in recent years, and I've been begging for a content update for a while now. A dungeon crawler and cutesy village builder jam-packed with hand-drawn-style cartoon animals, it's the perfect (if not a little obvious) backdrop for a game about surviving being ritualistically sacrificed to an evil god, taking down his dark cabal, usurping his power, and using it to found your own cult of cheery and sometimes canibalistic cultists. What, evil can't be cute too?

During this last holiday sale, I picked up LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. It had always been on my radar, I've loved the LEGO tie-in games ever since getting my hands on a PS2 copy of LEGO Star Wars 2: The Original Trilogy, to the point I even went back to also buy and play LEGO Star Wars 1 not long after. Even with all the love Traveller's Tales gave the Star Wars IP in terms of callbacks and character selection, what won me over was the fresh gameplay and delivery.
